SNIVELY/HAMEL CENTER FEATURE
OPENING STAND-UP
The Whittemore Center - This state-of-the-art facility is now in the midst of its sixth season and without a doubt one of the top college hockey facilities in the nation. To me, though, it seems hard to believe that this place has been open for that long. It seems like just yesterday that the 'Cats were playing next door in what was then known as Snively Arena.
Is Snively gone?
Well, yes and no. The exterior shape remains the same, but the Interior has been transformed into another state-of-the-art facility, the Hamel Recreation Center.
Let's go take a look.
THE OVERHANG:
As we take our trip through the Hamel Center, we are also going to take you back and remind you what used to be here when the building was known as Snively Arena.
The main entrance to the Hamel Center brings you in to the second level of the building about the same location as the overhanging balcony at the far end of Snively.
At this end of the building there was a balcony that extended out over net. On this balcony stood the flag waver who would wave the UNH flag after every Wildcat goal.
